Tuvalu borders open December 1st, 2022!

Funafuti (Tuvalu Department of Tourism) — Tuvalu will be opening its international borders on the 1st of December, as per the announcement by the Tuvalu Secretary to Government, Tapugao Falefou (PhD) on the 20th of November.

All things will be “back to normal” Dr. Falefou stated, in re-opening Tuvalu’s international borders. As of the 1st of December, a RAT test will be required for all international visitors upon arrival, while random PCR tests will be conducted per flight. Those tested positive will be recommended to be in home isolation for a period of 5 days.

This is great news for our tourism industry as the past two years of border closure has really had a huge negative impact on our stakeholders. We’re looking forward to welcoming back visitors to our shores and having our industry adjust to the new normal post covid-19” said Principal Tourism officer Paufi Afelee. Tuvalu recorded its first community transmission case on the 3rd of November, and currently has more than two thousand cumulative covid19 cases. Due to having a 98% vaccination rate however, only mild cases have been presented in the community.
